"I'm Driving The Jaquar Today..."
A few months ago I received an e-mail from my friend Dale Calvert. He was writing to me on his laptop computer while sitting on a beautiful beach on some lovely island. Well, it just so happened that I received the e-mail while taking a vacation on a totally different island some 15,000 miles away from Dale.
When I got back home, I called Dale on his cell phone. He answered the phone sounding so relaxed and pleased about life. He said, "Jerry, the weather in
I asked him if he was driving his convertible Viper, and he said,
"No. I'm driving the Jaguar today."
We both paused for a moment and then started laughing together hysterically. Even though we never verbally spoke about it, we both knew exactly why we were laughing.
About 20 years ago, Dale was just getting started in Network Marketing. He was 20 years old, living in a 600 square foot home, driving a beat-up Chevy Chevette, and traveling only as far as the car would take him, which was basically in the neighborhood. Today, he and his wife Stephanie and their three daughters live in a 16,000 square foot mansion, travel wherever and whenever they choose, and can go around causally saying things like, "I'm driving the Jaguar today."
Our laughter represented the joy of being able to be part of an industry that allows average folks, just like you and me, to transform our lives.
Our laughter represented the many years of ups and downs, the tears and smiles, the frustrations and fascinations, the good and bad.
Our laughter represented the relatives telling us that we were crazy to be a part of this industry, the family and social insult and isolation that took place, the many years of emotional heartache, the harassing calls from bill collectors, the electricity getting cut off for not being able to pay an $82 invoice, the countless people who said NO and that it wouldn't work, the months of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and on and on.
The laughter also represented that first $100 bonus check, the first retail sale, the first distributor sponsored, the first time walking across the stage to get an award, the first trip to Hawaii, the first brand new car, the first custom built house, the first day of freedom, and so on.
Believe it or not, the 30 seconds of laughter Dale and I engaged in represented over 35 years of combined involvement in the Network Marketing industry. And the part that really made a difference is that we both were laughing, knowing that anyone out there can experience the same thing.
That's right, it could be you sitting on some exotic island on the beach with your laptop checking and sending e-mails. It could be you owning a 16,000 square foot mansion. It could be you saying, "I'm driving the Jaguar today."
As Dale always says, "This business may not be easy - BUT IT IS WORTH IT!"
