How To Deal With Difficult Times

Jerry Clark, Jim Rohn & Panel

I've recently returned from the Jim Rohn Leadership Event that took place in Anaheim, California July 30th - August 1st, 2004...  I was invited to be one of the speakers at the event along with Brian Tracy, Denis Waitley, Jim Rohn, Charlie "Tremendous" Jones and others...

On the third day of the event, some of the speakers were selected to be part of a Panel Questions & Answers Session...  Those on the Panel were as follows:

  1. Jim Rohn
  2. Jerry "DRhino" Clark
  3. Brian Tracy
  4. Denis Waitley
  5. Donna Krech
  6. Vic Johnson
  7. Charlie "Tremendous" Jones

Here are some of the Questions that were asked along with the answers from the panel... Since the answers that the speaker's gave were written down by myself, some of what you read may be slightly paraphrased...

Question #1:

How Do You Deal With Difficult Times?

Answers from Panel Members in order of their response:

Charlie "Tremendous" Jones:   One of the powerful things that Charlie said is "You Grow when you can't go on, but you won't give up."  He also mentioned that the key is to be responsible for growing through tough situations and said that you have to be committed to making it through...  Beautiful Music is another thing he said helps...  In tough times, sometimes he would sing hymms which assisted him through tough times...

Donna Krech:  Donna basically said that one of the things that assisted her in getting through difficult times is in remembering the statement, "This Too Shall Pass."  I think this is powerful and it has been something that I have used as well in getting me through tough times...

Vic Johnson:   Vic talked about how it's important to realize that difficulties are simply a manifestation of what was going on in the inside.  Thus, he says, the key is to be sure to go to the inside to make the changes.  Something else he said that was powerful is, "There are no mistakes, only lessons."

Denis Waitley:  Denis made an analogy of Coral in certain parts of the world.  The Coral on the parts of the Ocean were there are lots of predators and harsh weather conditions actually grow stronger and survive longer than the Coral that's in the parts of the ocean where the waters are always calm and there are less predators and harsh conditions...  This was the first time I heard of this analogy and I thought it was a powerful... Something else Denis said that was very insightful is this:

Misery = Manure

Failure = Fertilizer

The point is that we all know that Manure and Fertilizer are used to grow beautiful things... Actually, life as we know it, would not be possible without the wonderful resources of Manure and Fertilizer...  Something to make you say, Hmmmm...

One last thing that Denis said in regards to this question was this:

"Stop Stewing and Start Doing."

Brian Tracy:  Brian said that if you don't have any "failures" then you're spending to much time "playing it safe"...  He says it's important to simply make a decision that regardless of the situation, you're never going to give up on your dreams...  He said it's important that you don't get caught up in living in "Reactive" mode when you are faced with difficult situations... Instead, choose how you will "Respond" when you're faced with difficult situations...

Brian goes on to give three actions that he performs daily that assists him in being able to be more grounded about life and certain challenges in general...

  1. Spiritual Reading Every Morning
  2. Spend time Walking and Reflecting
  3. Practice Solitude (spend time by yourself and being quite, meditating, etc.)

Jim Rohn:  Jim says that it's important to invest in the wise council of good friends... The key word is "Wise"... My interpretation of this are people who are producing the type of results you desire...  Prayer is also an important part of Jim's life... He says he believes that God is in control and that it's important for you to believe that things will work out...

Chris Weidner:  Chris was the MC of the event and he was one of the speakers... He added a few words regarding this question...  He said that it's important to realize that sometimes you look back and you are probably glad that things didn't work out the way you wanted them to at certain times in your life... The way I interpret what Chris said is that sometimes the difficult times that you were not so excited about when you were going through them was exactly what was necessary to take you to the next level that's of a higher and greater good for your life...

Jerry "DRhino" Clark:  I told the audience that one of the things that assisted me tremendously over the years during difficult times was a deep down realization that the statement that Napoleon Hill said was accurate...  Oh here's what he said:  "For Every Adversity, There is a Seed of Equal or Greater Benefit."  Thus, I felt that there had to be something good that will come from the adversity... I must simply keep growing, striving, and learning throughout the process...  Also, I mentioned that what assisted me probably more than anything else was the Power Vision Of The Future I had already Painted for Myself...  I expressed the importance of something I learned from Jim Rohn nearly 20 years ago... Namely:  "You can borrow from the Promise of the Future to engage in more Powerful Actions in the Present."

Whew... And that was all one of the several questions that was asked of the Panel...  (The Total Panel Questions and Answers went on for about 3 hours total)...

By the way, Jim Rohn International had the entire event Professionally Video Taped... That includes this panel discussion as well as the Entire Jim Rohn Leadership Event... It will be available via DVD and CD...  When they are complete and ready to go, I will have them available at our www.clubrhino.net and you should be able to find it at www.clubrhino.com as well...

Until Next Time...

Go, Go, Go!!!
